01First description

Leung and Paul reported baeocystin as a mono-methyl analogue of psilocybin from saprophytic culture of Psilocybe baeocystis in the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1967, and reported baeocystin together with norbaeocystin as new analogues of psilocybin from the same species in the same journal in 1968.

Neither paper is available in abstract or full text through the indexes consulted here. Both are cited for the reports their titles describe.

02Occurrence in Psilocybe cubensis

A 2026 study quantified psilocybin, psilocin, baeocystin, norbaeocystin, aeruginascin and norpsilocin in Psilocybe cubensis fruiting bodies, reporting that variability between strains of a single species grown under standardised conditions had been insufficiently characterised.

That paper is cited here at abstract level. The quantitative values it reports are not reproduced on this page and have not been checked against its tables.

03Scope of this record

This record covers chemical identity and the published history of the compound. It does not describe effects, preparation or dose, and nothing here is guidance for use.
