Begin with the source
A future essay will distinguish what a document records from what its author infers. Quotations will be checked against the original, translations attributed, and archival material accompanied by provenance and reproduction rights.

Follow a name through time
Taxonomic history needs room for changing interpretations. The essay template supports extended prose, linked bibliography entries, scientific names, contextual notes and captioned archival images.
A note on interpretation
An earlier name and a contemporary accepted name cannot be treated as interchangeable without verification. The future narrative will connect claims to reusable source records, so that readers can inspect the evidence behind each interpretation.
Keep the gaps visible
An incomplete archive is not an invitation to fill in the missing story. Where the record is uncertain, the published essay should say so. Where contributors disagree, attributed perspectives and contextual notes should preserve that disagreement.
